The original Beautytek system was developed in Italy in the 1990s by Valerio Genitoni, a biochemist and physician who also had knowledge of traditional Chinese Medicine as well as conventional western training. Its initial use was the delivery of post-operative pain relief.

However, after further development and the introduction of computerisation, doctors using it noticed that as well as helping dramatically with pain relief, the patient's skin condition had noticeably improved and body fat decreased.

The programming and systems were modified and Beautytek was born when Medilab, a German medical equipment manufacturer, took over development in 2001. Over 1,000 treatments are now performed in Europe every day.
